"Living closer to nature and its Maker"
Why do we need Waldorf homeschooling
and after-school or weekend enrichment programs in the community?
Waldorf schooling is the only method of schooling that utilizes a fully
holistic educational program for the child. Waldorf methods of teaching are based on the spiritual, physical and mental
education of the child. When a child learns using the Waldorf methods they are taught each skill they learn using all of their
body & soul and not "just the mind". For example...children are taught the English and Arabic alphabet physically
by finding shapes of the letter in nature and forming the shapes with their hands and body. They are taught mentally by making
the shapes themselves and using drawings about the letter to convey the meaning. Children are also taught the spirituality connected with the alphabet and are taught reverence for the sounds which
the letters make by listening to meaningful stories and beautiful usages of the alphabet such as one finds in the Qur'an.
Every aspect of the child's education in the Waldorf school integrates the "whole" child - children learn knitting and sewing
as part of their math education and as a way to teach them "useful" crafts, as an alternative to the "cut and paste" crafts
used in today's educational system. Children are encouraged to "live closer to nature and its maker" by using natural materials
created by Allah (SWT) such as wool, cotton, beeswax and wood and not man-made materials like plastic and metal.
When you follow the Waldorf system of education you are nurturing your child's body, mind and soul...! If you want to learn
more details explore my site, the sample lesson plan and some of the links. If you have any questions please e-mail me. There
are, as in every method, some people who do not represent true Waldorf principles correctly and I want to be sure you get
your information about Waldorf from the right sources. If you are interested in finding out a lot more about Waldorf from
another reliable source you can go to your local library or book store and get a copy of the book "You are Your Child's First
Teacher." By Rahima Baldwin. You can also find excerpts from her book online in various locations.
